What's The Best Sofa If You Have High Ceilings?
Hi there, this is Chris from Roger & Chris. I'm here today to talk about an important subject. Actually, it's not that important of a subject, but it is a question that comes up a lot, and it's a weird one, and I feel like I have to address it just because I get it so often.
Okay, here's the question: stick with me, I talk with somebody. They're trying to find the type of sofa that's appropriate for their home and they like a piece, say like they like a Chesterfield, they love the style of the Chesterfield, and then they say the only problem with that Chesterfield is it's not very tall and I have really high ceilings and I wanna make sure that the sofa doesn't look weird because it's short and the ceilings are high.
I get this question a lot and people really struggle with it. I don't know where it's coming from because it really makes zero difference at all. Your sofa is never gonna be proportionally matched to your ceilings, it's never gonna happen. It's really not the job of the sofa to coordinate with your ceiling height and if you go into grandiose mansions with extraordinarily high ceilings, you're gonna find a Chesterfield in the living room pretty regularly so I don't think it's a problem at all, end of story, like, it's a question that I kinda just don't, I can't even answer anymore.
The height of your ceiling and the height of your sofa bear no relationship to each other. They shouldn't be a problem at all. If you feel like the sofa feels dinky, or under scale, that's one thing. That's really a scale of the piece question. Maybe you need to consider the length of it, or the depth of it, or the configuration of the room, but a huge room, you're putting larger furniture in it. Or multiple groupings of furniture, so that problem can kinda be addressed.
Just think about going to a high-end hotel in New York, go into any sort of luxurious space, a lobby or anything like that. They're not gonna have gigantically tall furniture that's like three feet tall just because the ceilings are 30 feet tall, like that's just never gonna happen, so I really don't think it's a problem. I think it's sort of something that maybe people get into their heads one way or the other, but I wouldn't worry about it whatsoever. You're good to go. Go with the sofa you like. You'll be fine.
